For this example, we will use a square board measuring 10 inches by 10 inches. 2. Cut out your gameboard from a piece of sturdy cardboard or cardstock using a sharp knife or scissors. If you are using a printed template, tape it down before cutting to prevent slipping.

4a. To create pockets for storing pieces, apply double-sided tape or adhesive around the perimeter of each square pocket, leaving about 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) of space between each strip of tape (see image below). Be sure to place adhesive Tape only along folding lines!

Adhere another piece of cardboard or cardstock over top and press down firmly so that it adheres well to the tapes strips below (this second layer is optional but recommended). Trim away any excess material from around the pockets if necessary using scissors or a craft knife..

4b.(optional step) Another way to create pockets without having to use any adhesive is by simply scoring folds into your gameboard as shown in the image below . Simply use a blunt object such as a bone folder, butter knife ,or even just your fingernail ,to press evenly along all marked lines . Be extra careful not to cut through your paper ! Now when you fold along these newly scored lines ,you should have nice clean pockets perfect for holding pieces without having used any glue or tape  5.(optional step)If you want an additional playing surface on which players can keep their personal belongings during gameplay ,you may want add an insert flap .To do this ,simply take another sheet same size as your gameboard and score it along its center ; then adhere one side flush against underside of main playing surface using hot glue ,double sided tape ,or another strong adhesive .
